Joining this Episode are returning guests Dr. Liliana Fadul, Ph.D., who is a Data Scientist at Lactenet in Canada, Dr. Vivi Thorup, assistant professor at the Department of Animal and Veterinary Sciences at Aarhus University, Denmark, and Daniel Foy, Co-Founder & CEO of AgriGates.

Dr. Vivi Throup, is a biologist currently working as an assistant professor at Dept. of Animal and Veterinary Sciences at Aarhus University, Denmark. In 2007 she completed her PhD in animal biomechanics at the Institute of Exercise and Sport Sciences, Copenhagen University, Denmark. Research, innovation, precision livestock farming, and animal welfare define the intersection of Vivi’s career, and she has been involved in the modeling of complex data both in academia and in the industry. Vivi has worked with various sensor technologies to extract information on animal behaviour and health, aiming to make the most sense out of sensor data and implement management decisions that improve animal welfare. She thinks that the agricultural industry, incl. students, farmers, vets, advisors, tech producers etc., needs more education in data handling and interpretation to prepare them better for dealing with the increasing amount of sensor data.

Dr. Liliana Fadul is an animal scientist currently working as a data scientist at Lactanet, Montreal, Canada. Liliana completed her Ph.D. at Université Laval (Quebec, Canada). There, she recognized the potential use of data science techniques to help identify problems and offer solutions in the Animal Science field. Learning and exploring these applied techniques, particularly in dairy farms, became her true passion. Liliana was part of the Dairy Brain project team, leld Doctor Victor Cabrera (Department of Animal and Dairy Science at the University of Wisconsin-Madison), where she started exploring data governance in the dairy farm industry and encountered that there is a need to raise awareness among farmers and create an environment that enhances sharing ensuring data governance and transparency. At Lactanet Liliana uses different types of data to develop tools using advanced analytics (i.e., artificial intelligence) that can help the holistic management of dairy farms.
